Wilderness: As It Was in the Beginning

On September 3rd, 2014, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United States Wilderness Act, which puts aside nearly 5% of the territory of the USA as wilderness areas. This momentous piece of legislation made sure that, as President Lyndon Johnson said: “If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it.”
