The Great American Zoo Trip

Time is running out for many of Earth’s creatures and with 7 billion people on the planet now, wildlife just can’t compete.

That is why National Geographic magazine photographer Joel Sartore is on The Great American Zoo Trip with his 18-year-old son to take portraits of as many endangered animals as possible.

The goal: to show what’s at stake in terms of species loss and to get people to care while there’s still time.  National Geographic magazine is running a blog about Sartore’s recent zoo visits- the posts focus on the importance of conservation efforts, why species diversity matters, funny stories about mishaps and crazy things animals do, and the determination of one person who decided to try a make a difference.
